02 HOW WE WORK

A closer look
at the work.

Here’s how we approach network setup,
recurring faults, and the support
your staff needs during a shift.

01
RESTAURANT INFRASTRUCTURE

Separate guest and business traffic.

A restaurant may have POS terminals, guest Wi-Fi, office computers, cameras, and music sharing one internet connection.

We check how everything connects, follow the POS provider’s setup requirements, and document the layout so future changes are easier to manage.

02
TROUBLESHOOTING

A printer that keeps dropping offline.

A printer can show a connection and still fail to receive tickets. Restarting it may get service moving, but a recurring fault needs a closer look.

We check power, connections, signal, and device settings. If the issue needs the vendor, we can help coordinate support and explain what’s already been checked.

03
MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Tools and training for management.

We walk managers through their setup and the routine checks they can safely carry out, following their POS provider’s requirements.

The work includes clear documentation, practical troubleshooting tools and checklists, and a plan for who to call when an issue needs the POS provider, internet provider, or another specialist.

03 THE PERSON BEHIND SERVICE2SERVERS

Mike.

MY BACKGROUND

IT support.
Restaurant management.
Hands-on networking.

I’ve been in restaurant management for over ten years, but before that I worked in IT support.

I worked for a managed IT services provider, helping people with computer, software, and network problems. These days I’m the assistant general manager at a fine-dining steakhouse, where I also spend a lot of time working on our POS, Wi-Fi, and network.

When a printer stops receiving tickets in the middle of dinner, you need to get service moving again. I’ve dealt with that from the restaurant side, so I understand why the timing matters. I like figuring out what’s actually causing a problem and understanding how everything works together.

I’m building Service2Servers alongside my restaurant-management job, so I handle the work by appointment. My availability is limited, and I can’t offer 24/7 support.

My focus is giving management the tools and training to look after their own systems. I want managers to understand their setup, know what to check when something goes wrong, and know who to call when it needs more help. That includes clear documentation, troubleshooting tools and checklists, and hands-on training for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.

CAREER BACKGROUND

How I got here.

  1. 2024–present

    Assistant General Manager

    Fine-dining steakhouse

I help run the restaurant and work through technology issues, including POS, Wi-Fi, and coordinating with our vendors.

  2. 2018–2024

    General Manager

    Due South Seafood Kitchen

Along with running the restaurant, I looked after POS systems and worked with vendors on equipment upgrades and troubleshooting.

  3. 2011–2014

    Help Desk Technician, Level 1 & 2

    Managed IT services provider

I helped users with Windows, hardware, software, and network issues, and documented problems that needed to be escalated.

SELECTED PROJECTS

What I’ve been working on.

RESTAURANT INFRASTRUCTURE

The restaurant network

I’ve been working through a restaurant network I inherited, figuring out how the firewall, POS, and wireless equipment fit together. That’s included managing the firewall, deploying UniFi access points, and writing things down so the next problem is easier to trace.

HOME LAB · IN PROGRESS

My home network and lab

I’m putting together a home network and lab where I can work on firewalls, VLANs, and virtualization using Proxmox. The plan keeps the main network separate from the systems I’m experimenting with.

HARDWARE · DESIGN PROJECT

A custom firewall enclosure

I’ve been designing a 2U rackmount enclosure that combines PC hardware and 3D-printed parts. I wanted the network ports at the front so they’d be easier to get to when working on the equipment.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Where I want
to take this.

I’d like to grow Service2Servers into steady work helping restaurants get more comfortable managing their technology. I’m continuing to build my networking and infrastructure skills as I go.

I want this site to show the work I’ve actually done, what I’m working on now, and where I’m headed. It also gives restaurant owners a way to see what I can help with and get in touch.

BEFORE YOU GET IN TOUCH

Questions?

Is Service2Servers affiliated with Toast or UniFi?

No. Service2Servers is an independent business. Product names describe hands-on experience, not a partnership or certification. Payment and POS changes must follow your provider’s requirements.

Can you help if I’m not sure what’s wrong?

Yes. Tell us what stopped working, when it happens, and which devices are affected. We’ll discuss what to check first and agree on the work before getting started.

How do pricing and availability work?

The cost depends on your setup, the work involved, and whether an on-site visit is needed. Get in touch for availability and an estimate. Support is by appointment, with limited availability. We don’t offer 24/7 support.

Do I need to share passwords to make an inquiry?

No. A brief description is enough to start. Don’t include passwords, payment information, remote access links, or sensitive network details in the inquiry.
